Item Description
Used twice!
The Evolution Airsoft SAG (Smart Airsoft Gun) series is Evolution's attempt to outdo themselves with a new and improved electronic trigger unit, known as the ETS II. The ETS II is fully programmable and can be set for binary fire in semi-auto, ramping semi-auto, i.e a short press for semi with a long press for full auto, bursts of varying durations and a sniper delay, a function which limits the semi-auto response to allow you to use your SAG as a bolt action sniper rifle. The ETS II also provides low battery protection, saving your battery from damage in case you forget to remove it after a game day, and active braking to protect the circuitry within the internals and prevent the motor from over spinning.
Starting at the tip of the 9-inch outer barrel we can find a birdcage flash hider which conceals 14mm CCW male threads beneath. The outer barrel is constructed from alloy and is surrounded by Evolution Airsoft's 8-inch EMR rail system, providing both M-LOK and Picatinny attachment surfaces. The handguard features M-LOK slots at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock positions, with an additional 20mm Picatinny rail section at the front and at the rear of the 12 o'clock handguard position. This allows for a flip-up iron sight to be mounted at the front of the handguard, and integrates the 20mm Picatinny receiver rail with the handguard rail seamlessly, allowing for longer optical sights and red dot sight magnifier combinations to fit without issues. This combination of M-LOK and Picatinny is a match made in heaven as far as weight savings are concerned and equips the Ghost S EMR with the flexibility to add accessories whilst keeping its default configuration light for rapid snap-shooting.
The sight setup included with the Ghost S EMR comes pre-installed on the rifle's upper rail, and can easily be removed and swapped out for your preferred sights thanks to the 20mm Picatinny attachment method. The included sights are a "Troy" inspired flip-up design, with both the front post and rear aperture being surrounded with alloy protective wings intended to prevent the sights from being damaged if scraped. To deploy the sights, simply press the button on the left side of either sight's base, and the sight can be raised by hand. Reversing this process will allow you to fold the sights back down for storage, or for using an optical sight. The front sight can be adjusted for elevation using an AR15 front sight adjustment tool, and the rear sight can be adjusted for windage using the dial on the right side of the sight body. The rear sight provides two apertures to choose from; a fine aperture for daylight use and semi-auto fire, and a wider aperture for use in low light or when hosing the enemy with full auto bursts!
As we reach the receiver we can find a modernised M4/AR15 style design, with all the lumps and bumps we know but with a new, reprofiled, angular look matching the ultra-modern design language expressed by the EMR handguard. The receiver is constructed from Evolution Airsoft's advanced Carbontech polymer, and is rock solid to the touch, with absolutely no flex whatsoever. This means weight in the receiver is kept to an absolute minimum and is even further reduced thanks to the weight-reducing cuts throughout all the usually flat areas of the AR receiver. Carbontech polymer was developed with the intention of providing metal-like strength but with the low weight and high scratch resistance of fibre reinforced polymers, meaning that your Evolution AEG's perfect finish will not be worn down from rubbing against gear, or scratched badly from a spot of clumsiness in the field.
The magazine release of the Ghost S EMR can be found on the right side of the magazine well, and is surrounded by what is known as the "mag release fence". This protrusion in the receiver is intended to prevent the magazine release from being inadvertently pressed when the rifle rubs against gear and has appropriately been reprofiled with a modernised look. The fire selector can be found on the left side of the AEG, sitting right beneath the shooter's thumb when in a firing grip. This allows for the super-fast weapon manipulation the M4/AR15 platform is known for. Each fire mode is denoted by a recessed pictogram, with a crossed-out projectile for safe, a single projectile for semi-auto and a projectile with lines following to denote fully automatic. The selector lever requires a 90-degree throw between each mode of fire, making the Ghost S EMR quick to operate without risking potentially slipping into the wrong mode of fire. The left side of the receiver also features a dummy bolt release catch. This part serves no function but is a separate part to add detail and realism to the build.
The charging handle can be found at the top centre of the receiver and features an extended latch to allow for fast access when a quick HOP-up adjustment is necessary. Pulling the charging handle back will pop open the dust cover on the right side, retracting the mock bolt carrier and revealing the rotary HOP-up adjuster, which will be visible through the now open mock ejection port. This device allows you to add backspin to your projectile and tune the Ghost EMR for the flattest trajectory with different ammo weights. The rotary adjuster style HOP-up unit is widely recognised as the best HOP-up unit design for the M4/AR15 platform, and when coupled with Evolution Airsoft's 6.01mm tight bore inner barrel it gives the Ghost S EMR superb range and accuracy you wouldn't expect from such a compact AEG.
Following the receiver, we come to the collapsible PDW stock of the Ghost S EMR, which is constructed with an alloy stock base, steel stock bars and a polymer butt plate. This stock allows the Ghost S EMR to be compressed down to much shorter than a standard M4/AR15 buffer tube, making it easy to store in smaller gun bags and ideal for the close confines of a CQB skirmish. This modernised stock pairs perfectly with the ergonomic pistol grip, which features a refined grip angle to make the rifle more comfortable to shoot with modern shooting stances. The grip also features crackle texture on either side, and linear texture on the front to ensure it does not slip out of your hand at a key moment.
The buffer tube of the PDW stock sits beneath the butt plate when the stock is collapsed and doubles as the battery compartment of the Ghost S EMR. To access the battery compartment, we will first need to extend the stock, then unscrew the buffer tube with a counter clockwise turn. With this done we are presented with a Deans battery connector, a nice modern touch from Evolution Airsoft to maximise the electrical efficiency and allow for a higher rate of fire. The battery compartment is designed for PDW style stick batteries, and we recommend a 7.4V 600mAh LiPo battery for the best fit.
Internally the Ghost S EMR really excels, and when you check out what's inside this will come as no surprise! Like Evolution's previous offerings, the Ghost S EMR sports reinforced steel gears powered by a high torque motor, kept in check by the excellent ETS II electronic trigger unit. The ETS II also helps boost the rate of fire and trigger response, protects the battery and circuitry within the AEG, and monitors the gearbox to ensure full cycles are being completed and that the motor does not over spin. Also built into the ETS II is the ability to program your fire controls; offering burst mode, binary trigger, ramping semi-auto and a sniper delay, giving this ETU some serious flexibility and customisation options.
To deliver the BBs onto the target, the Ghost S EMR boasts a 6.01mm tight bore inner barrel combined with a rotary adjustable HOP-up unit, guaranteeing accuracy and the ability to reach out. The gearbox is also equipped with a quick removal spring guide, meaning if you decide to change your spring down the line the job will be a million times easier (trust us on this!).
If you are looking for an AEG with superb pre-upgraded internals, a lightweight, hard-wearing, modernised exterior with a plethora of customisation options, which is also as smart on the inside as it looks on the outside, the Ghost S EMR is what you have been searching for!
